NEDP - National External Diploma Program
with Nettie Rank
The National External Diploma Program (NEDP) was created to help mature students connect their real-life and occupational skills with academic abilities required to meet national high school standards. The NEDP is designed to help those candidates who need a high school diploma, but choose to not go through traditional high school credit classes or the GED program. Instead it offers a more flexible time schedule and independence from traditional classes and does not focus on tests as does the GED. Consequently, it allows the candidate multiple opportunities to correct the assignments and therefore, learn at his/her own pace.
NEDP applicants will meet with an Advisor to review the program and complete a series of diagnostics. If necessary, the candidate may use the resources of the EHALC’s ABE program if any remediation is necessary. Once diagnostics are completed, the NEDP client will be assigned an assessor to guide them through the Generalized Assessment process. A series of activities from eight Competency Areas will be completed online at home. The client will then schedule weekly meetings with their assessor for an In-Office review and to correct the completed work. Once all the competencies are demonstrated, an East Haven Adult High School diploma will be awarded.
The candidate’s skill level at the time of enrollment, how much review of basic skills is needed, and how closely the client adheres to the timeframe set by the program, will determine how long the process will take. In most instances it takes most clients between 7 - 9 months to complete the program.
All NEDP information sessions, diagnostics, work sessions and in-office checks will be by appointment only for the foreseeable future.
Please contact Nettie Rank for an appointment by phone 203-468-3795 or email: nrank@east-haven.k12.ct.us.
